Description

The 5-gallon reverse osmosis (RO) storage tank is a key component of any under-sink or point-of-use RO water purification system. Designed to collect and hold purified water produced by the RO membrane, this pressurized tank ensures you have clean, great-tasting water ready on demand without waiting for the membrane to slowly produce it.

Whether you’re topping up a glass, filling a pitcher, or cooking for your family, this storage tank helps deliver consistent flow and performance with every use.

Key Features

  • Pre-pressurized design: Built with an internal diaphragm and pre-charged air to provide steady water flow as soon as you open the RO faucet — no booster pump needed in most cases.
  • Food-grade materials: Water-contact components are made from safe, NSF-tested materials to ensure clean, tasteless, and odorless water.
  • Standard RO connection: Common 1/4″ NPT or similar threaded connection fits most residential RO systems for easy integration.
  • Compact footprint: The smaller 5 gallon size fits neatly under kitchen sinks, in utility cabinets, or in tight spaces.
  • Reliable diaphragm: High-grade butyl or chlorobutyl diaphragm separates water from air for consistent pressurized delivery.

Specifications

  • Capacity: ~5 US gallons total (usable water varies with system pressure).
  • Connection Size: 1/4″ NPT male (common for RO systems).
  • Construction: Steel or polypropylene-wrapped shell with internal butyl diaphragm.
  • Pre-Charge Pressure: Typically ~6–10 psi at the factory for optimal fill and delivery.
  • Maximum Working Pressure: ~100 psi typical for household RO use.
  • Orientation: Can discharge water in both vertical and horizontal positions.

Applications

Ideal for residential RO systems where water purity and convenience matter:

  • Under-sink point-of-use RO systems
  • Kitchen drinking water filtration
  • Small office or apartment RO setups
  • Supplemental storage for RO-produced water

By storing the purified water under pressure, the tank enables instant hot or cold water delivery without the wait — making your RO system practical and efficient for everyday use.

How It Works

Reverse osmosis membranes produce purified water slowly. The storage tank collects this water and, thanks to its internal air-pressurized bladder, pushes the water out at your faucet quickly and reliably whenever you need it. Without a tank, you’d wait each time you opened the faucet for the membrane to produce water on demand.

Maintenance

  • Check air pressure: If the tank stops delivering water efficiently, the internal air pressure may have changed. The bladder should be checked and adjusted (often ~5–7 psi) when the tank is empty.
  • Sanitization: Sanitize the tank occasionally as part of your RO system’s yearly maintenance to prevent bacterial growth.
  • Inspect connections: Ensure the threaded connection and any valves are tight and free from leaks.
