Description

The 10″ Big Blue 20 Micron String Wound Filter is a sediment reduction cartridge made from durable polypropylene string wound media wrapped around a rigid core. Its construction creates graded density that efficiently captures and holds larger particles such as dirt, sand, silt, rust, and scale — making it an excellent choice for pre‑filtration where higher micron ratings (coarser filtration) are acceptable.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 20 Micron Nominal Rating: Designed to remove coarse sediment and suspended solids, reducing particulate load before finer stages.
  • String Wound Polypropylene Media: Wound cord increases surface area and dirt‑holding capacity compared to simple drop‑in filters.
  • Durable Construction: Made from 100% polypropylene fiber and core, resistant to many chemicals and suitable for potable water.
  • High Flow Capability: Works well in whole‑house Big Blue housings, supporting robust flow rates with relatively low pressure drop.
  • Protects Downstream Equipment: Helps extend life of finer filters, carbon stages, UV lamps, and softeners by removing large particles up‑front.
  • Economical & Replaceable: Affordable option for sediment pre‑filtration with easy swap‑out maintenance.

Compatibility

  • Fits: Standard 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue (BB) filter housings.
  • Systems: Suitable as a first‑stage sediment filter in whole‑house filtration, well water systems, municipal pre‑filtration, and before other media (carbon, RO, UV, softening).
  • Use With: Other filters (e.g., carbon block, 5 µm sediment, specialty media) to tailor overall water quality based on specific contaminants.

Maintenance

  • Replace Periodically: Typically every 3–12 months depending on water quality, sediment load, and system flow. As particles accumulate, pressure drop increases indicating it’s time for replacement.
  • Inspect During Service: Check for visible discoloration or heavy buildup; replace sooner if needed.
  • Check O‑Rings: Ensure housing O‑rings are lubricated and seated properly when changing filters to maintain seal and avoid leaks.
  • Flush After Change: After installing a new filter, flush water through the housing briefly to remove trapped air and loose sediment.

Why Use a 20 Micron String Wound Filter

A 20 micron string wound cartridge is a cost‑effective choice for initial sediment removal in high‑capacity filtration systems. Its design captures larger particles that can cause wear or clogging in finer filters later in the sequence, helping maintain performance while reducing maintenance frequency on expensive downstream media.
