Description
The 10″ Big Blue String Wound 1 Micron Polypropylene Filter is a high-efficiency sediment filter designed to capture very fine particles such as silt, rust, sand, dirt, and other suspended solids from water. Featuring a string-wound depth filtration design, this cartridge offers excellent dirt-holding capacity and extended service life in high-flow residential and light commercial applications.
Ideal as a pre-filter, this cartridge helps protect downstream equipment such as carbon filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis systems, and UV disinfection units.
Key Features
- 1 Micron Nominal Filtration – Effectively reduces fine sediment and particulate matter for clearer, cleaner water.
- String Wound Depth Filtration – Multi-layer construction traps larger particles on the outer layers while capturing finer particles deeper in the filter, extending filter life.
- Big Blue Format – Designed for 4.5″ × 10″ Big Blue housings, providing higher flow rates and longer service intervals than slim-line cartridges.
- Polypropylene Media – Chemically resistant and compatible with a wide range of water conditions, including municipal and well water.
- Binder-Free Construction – Made from pure polypropylene fibers with no adhesives, reducing the risk of media contamination.
Specifications
- Filter Size: 4.5″ × 10″ (Big Blue)
- Micron Rating: 1 micron (nominal)
- Media Type: String wound polypropylene
- Maximum Flow Rate: Up to ~8–10 GPM (application dependent)
- Operating Temperature: ~40 °F – 165 °F (4 °C – 74 °C)
- Maximum Pressure: ~125 psi
Compatibility
- Fits standard 10″ Big Blue filter housings
- Compatible with most whole-house and point-of-entry filtration systems
- Ideal as a pre-filter ahead of carbon filters, softeners, RO membranes, and UV systems
Applications
- Whole-house sediment filtration
- Well water pre-treatment
- Municipal water clarification
- Protection for UV disinfection systems
- Reverse osmosis and specialty filter pre-filtration
- Light commercial water treatment
Maintenance & Replacement
- Replace cartridge based on sediment load and water quality — typically every 3–6 months, or sooner in high-sediment conditions
- Monitor pressure drop across the filter to determine optimal replacement timing
- Inspect housing O-rings during filter changes and lubricate as needed
Why Choose a 1 Micron Big Blue String Wound Filter?
The 1 micron string wound design provides superior fine-particle removal while maintaining good flow in Big Blue housings. This makes it an excellent choice where maximum sediment reduction is required to protect sensitive downstream water treatment equipment and improve overall water clarity.
