Description

The 14-gallon reverse osmosis (RO) storage tank is a high-capacity, pressurized water holding tank designed to work with residential or commercial RO systems. It stores purified water produced slowly by the RO membrane so you can access clean, great-tasting water instantly without waiting for production at the faucet. These tanks use a diaphragm/bladder design that separates water from air and provides steady delivery pressure when you turn on the RO faucet.

Key Features

  • Large 14 gallon total capacity — ideal for homes with higher water use, multiple users, or frequent filling of pitchers and bottles.
  • Pre-pressurized bladder design — ensures stored water is delivered at consistent flow and pressure.
  • Food-grade diaphragm & liner — prevents water from contacting the metal shell, preserving taste and quality.
  • Stainless steel or powder-coated steel construction — durable and corrosion-resistant for long life.
  • Standard 1/4″ NPT or 3/4″ MNPT connection — fits most RO systems or can be adapted with included fittings.
  • NSF/ANSI certification available on many models — certified for safe drinking water applications.

How It Works

Reverse osmosis membranes produce purified water relatively slowly. A storage tank collects this water and stores it under pressure using a bladder separated from an air chamber. When you open your RO faucet, the pressurized bladder pushes water out quickly, giving you instant flow and volume — even if the membrane is making water slowly in the background.

Usable volume: Although the tank’s rated capacity is 14 gallons, the actual usable water depends on your feed pressure. At typical household pressures (e.g., ~60–70 psi), usable water is often around 7–10 gallons.

Specifications (Typical, May Vary by Model)

  • Total Capacity: 14 gallons (approx.)
  • Usable Water: ~7–10 gallons depending on system pressure and pre-charge
  • Connection: 1/4″ or 3/4″ NPT male threaded
  • Material: Steel shell with polypropylene liner and butyl/chlorobutyl diaphragm
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: ~100 psi
  • Pre-Charge: Typically pre-charged at ~5–7 psi for best balance of storage and delivery
  • Dimensions: ~15½″ diameter × ~23–25″ height (varies by model)

Applications

  • Whole-house or point-of-use reverse osmosis systems
  • Kitchens and drinking water stations
  • Offices or small commercial setups
  • Ice makers and refrigerators connected to RO lines
  • High-demand households or places with frequent RO water use

A larger tank like this is especially useful where multiple people need water at once — for cooking, filling bottles, or beverage prep — without the wait.

Maintenance & Tips

  • Check pre-charge pressure: When empty, the air pressure should be around the manufacturer’s recommended psi (often ~5–7 psi). Adjust with a pump if needed.
  • Sanitize periodically: Clean the tank when servicing your RO system to prevent biofilm or sediment buildup.
  • Inspect fittings: Ensure threaded connections and valves remain tight and free from leaks.
